چکیده
The hp -adaptive finite element method—where one independently chooses the mesh size ( h ) and polynomial degree p to be used on each cell—has long been known have better theoretical convergence properties than either - or methods alone. However, it is not widely used, owing at least in part difficulty of underlying algorithms lack usable implementations. This particularly true when with continuous elements. Herein, we discuss that are necessary for a comprehensive generic implementation distributed-memory, parallel machines. In particular, will present multistage algorithm unique enumeration degrees freedom suitable spaces, describe considerations weighted load balancing, transfer variable data between processes. We illustrate performance our numerical examples demonstrate they scale reasonably up 16,384 message passage interface provide reference as open source library deal.II .

A Model for Parallel Adaptive Finite Element Software
The paper presents a conceptual model and details of an implementation for parallel adaptive finite element systems, particularly their computational kernels. The whole methodology is based on domain decomposition while message passing is used as a model of programming. The proposed finite element architecture consist of independent modules, most of them taken from sequential codes. The sequent...
متن کاملGeneric Finite Element Programming for Massively Parallel Flow Simulations
We present design issues, data structures and algorithms which allow us to leverage the power of high performance computer clusters in generic finite element codes. Large scale flow simulations require parallel algorithms to scale to thousands of processor cores. Simple parallelization in generic finite element codes often reduces to implementing parallel linear algebra and solvers or interfaci...
متن کاملParallel Adaptive Finite Element Algorithms for Solving the Coupled Electro-diffusion Equations
In this paper we present parallel adaptive finite element algorithms for solving the 3D electro-diffusion equations such as the Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations and the size-modified Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations in simulations of biomolecular systems in ionic liquid. A set of transformation methods based on the generalized Slotboom variables is used to solve the coupled equations. Calculation...
متن کاملParallel , Adaptive Finite Element Methods for Conservation Laws
Abstract: We construct parallel finite element methods for the solution of hyperbolic conservation laws in one and two dimensions. Spatial discretization is performed by a discontinuous Galerkin finite element method using a basis of piecewise Legendre polynomials. Temporal discretization utilizes a Runge-Kutta method. Dissipative fluxes and projection limiting prevent oscillations near solutio...
